Sri Lanka: landmine ladies
After the end of the long running conflict in Sri Lanka, in 2009, huge areas of the north of the country were littered with land mines and unexploded ordnance. Because so many men had been had been either killed or wounded in the fighting, de-mining agencies like The Halo Trust have had to train teams of women to search for landmines. It is hot, dangerous work, carried out by some incredibly brave women.
